It’s a brave new world for the home baker. In the now-distant past (as late as a year ago, actually), if you were serious about making bread at home the only decision about flour you had to make was which unbleached white flour gave the best lift and the chewiest crumb.

How to Store Almond Flour. Keep in mind that almonds have a high fat content and retain moisture, even in flour form. Avoid buying almond flour in bulk unless you plan to go through it quickly, and store it properly in a well-sealed container kept in a cool, dry place. There is also King Arthur Flour from Vermont, available by courier with a small duty attached (sometimes.) It might be interesting to compare the vaunted King Arthur with the Canadian water-milled product. The bread makers in my family live close to Arva and have been using it since 1975. Sister in law's rye bread is better than Ace's!

OK, it's crazy cold out so I'm stuck at home with my baby & it feels like a great day to make bread. However, the only flour I have in the house, somehow, is whole wheat pastry flour. I know pastry flour is really not meant for bread so it's not ideal but will it make acceptable bread in a pinch?

Has anyone had any experience with this? I send about ten a year to friends and family out-of-state. In the past, I've used Gambino's and Randazzo's, but these are getting prohibitively expensive at a minimum of $40 each. I'm considering buying the king cakes at local prices and shipping them myself by two-day priority mail.

A few times in the past year, I've been tempted to buy store brand ShopRite AP flour. On sale it is usually $1.88 for a 5lb. bag. I consider it for a few seconds, then I chicken out and buy some national brand like Gold Medal or Pillsbury, whichever is the most reasonably priced that week.

It is a cured cut from the hind leg. It can be used in Ireland and the U.K. in a boiled dinner of bacon, cabbage and potato. My Mom called it "a joint", "a piece of bacon" or "boiling bacon" although boiling bacon isn't exclusively a gammon joint - confusing, I know.

Silversea included absolutely everything from drinks to cigs if you smoked (that amazed me, but it was Europe!) - only exceptions were shore excursions & spa services & highly upgraded wines & champagnes.
